Limerick District League Premier Division round-up

Fairview Rangers and Regional United maintained their 100% records at the start of the Limerick District League Premier Division with victories over Prospect and Mungret Regional respectively.

Fairview ran out 8-0 winners over Prospect with Daragh Rainsford grabbing a hattrick. The former Limerick FC and Cork City man will be a key asset for Jason Purcell’s side this season. Ross Mann, Jason Lipper (x2) and Eddie Byrnes (x2) completed the scoring.

Regional defeated Mungret 2-1 with two goals from Donal O’Connell, helping Shane O’Donoghue’s side build on an opening day victory over Aisling Annacotty.

Janesboro bounced back from a heavy opening day defeat to title rivals Pike with a 1-0 win over Aisling Annacotty. New signing Arron Nunan who has returned to the club from Ballynanty Rovers, netted with five minutes remaining to grab all three points.

In an entertaining game at Limerick Institute of Technology, Ballynanty Rovers came out on the right side of a five goal thriller. Gordon McKevitt gave the newly promoted side the lead before a goal from Shane Guerin cancelled it out.

Liam Morris regained the lead for John Spillane’s men but Donal Magee’s Ballynanty showed great character and a goal from Kenneth Meehan and then a penalty from Barry Quinn provided the northsiders with the vital win.

At the Garryowen Green on Sunday morning, Geraldines provided stern opposition for Pike Rovers. Robbie Williams side took an early lead as Stephen McGann headed home. Geraldines were awarded a penalty as Wayne Colbert wrestled with Kevin Barry and John McNamara pointed to the penalty spot.

Bobby Tier duly converted the spot kick. The home side took the lead with a very well worked goal when the dangerous Kevin Barry passed to Christy O’Neill and the midfielder picked out a superb pass to the onrushing Cian O’Donoghue to finish low past Gary Neville.

Just as it looked like Geraldines would hold on for victory, the Hoops were warded a penalty for a handball offence and Conor Kavanagh stepped up to score his second penalty in four days.

Nenagh picked up a vital victory over Kilmallock on Saturday evening as Danny Butler scored the solitary goal in a 1-0 success.
