A MAN believed to be aged in his 70s was pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) this Saturday after coming into difficulty while swimming in Kilkee Bay at approximately 10:20 am.
Following a rescue operation involving the Irish Coast Guard, Gardaí, and the National Ambulance Service, the man was airlifted to UHL and was said to be in a critical condition, and was pronounced dead in the afternoon.
Gardaí investigating the tragedy will prepare a report for the local coroner.
