A WELCOME blast of continental heat in the form of Chamber Philharmonia Cologne will carry an August 15 concert next Thursday at St Mary’s Cathedral. An ensemble from this prestigious German orchestra will teach us the truth of its maxim in chords and beautiful music: “To inspire people across the world to enjoy classical music.”
Each year this company tours Ireland, the UK and Europe with “a programme of popular and unknown works from a wide variety of composers.” In this return visit to its Limerick berth in the Medieval Quarter, the programme will feature Antonio Vivaldi and his ‘La Tempesta de Mare’, then Mozart, Niccolo Paganini and Camille Saint-Saens.
Perhaps uniquely as an orchestra, every member has an opportunity to perform as soloist, and this in turn decides content, showcasing the musicians together and solo.
Tickets at the door on Thursday 15 or book at the concert hall’s box office if you wish, www.uch.ie for 8pm concert.
