NEWLYWEDS from the United States of America said that they couldn’t ask for more as they started their honeymoon at the Limerick Pride Parade last Saturday.
After taking a selfie in the middle of the thousands gathered at Merchant’s Quay for the start of the Limerick Pride parade, Ellen and Barb McKenzie spoke to the Limerick Post about their wedding celebrations.
“Oh my God, it’s amazing,” said Barb, with Ellen following up, “It’s a dream come true really, and to make it at a Pride parade, you couldn’t write that up.”
The couple were recently married in Scotland and were visiting Limerick during their extended stay in Ireland when the happened upon the Pride parade.
“We honestly had no idea it was happening,” said Barb.
“Yeah, as soon as we knew we were coming to Limerick for a couple of days and were like ‘you’re kidding’,” Ellen exclaimed, and Barb added, “We’re doing this.”
The couple said it was “great” to see so many people out celebrating Pride in the city, with Barb saying, ”Where we’re from, near Washington DC, and when we went to Pride last year there were 500,000 people there.”
“Yeah, in Chicago too,” said Ellen, with both saying, “And to see all these young people, that’s what amazing, so many young people.”
Ellen concluded, “There’s a lot of older people in our parades, but this is like 80 per cent young, it’s great, it’s brilliant, it’s wonderful.”
