A proud celebration for American newlyweds at Limerick Pride

NEWLYWEDS from the United States of America said that they couldnโ€™t ask for more as they started their honeymoon at the Limerick Pride Parade last Saturday.

After taking a selfie in the middle of the thousands gathered at Merchantโ€™s Quay for the start of the Limerick Pride parade, Ellen and Barb McKenzie spoke to the Limerick Post about their wedding celebrations.

โ€œOh my God, itโ€™s amazing,โ€ said Barb, with Ellen following up, โ€œItโ€™s a dream come true really, and to make it at a Pride parade, you couldnโ€™t write that up.โ€

The couple were recently married in Scotland and were visiting Limerick during their extended stay in Ireland when the happened upon the Pride parade.

โ€œWe honestly had no idea it was happening,โ€ said Barb.

โ€œYeah, as soon as we knew we were coming to Limerick for a couple of days and were like โ€˜youโ€™re kiddingโ€™,โ€ Ellen exclaimed, and Barb added, โ€œWeโ€™re doing this.โ€

The couple said it was โ€œgreatโ€ to see so many people out celebrating Pride in the city, with Barb saying, โ€Where weโ€™re from, near Washington DC, and when we went to Pride last year there were 500,000 people there.โ€

โ€œYeah, in Chicago too,โ€ said Ellen, with both saying, โ€œAnd to see all these young people, thatโ€™s what amazing, so many young people.โ€

Ellen concluded, โ€œThereโ€™s a lot of older people in our parades, but this is like 80 per cent young, itโ€™s great, itโ€™s brilliant, itโ€™s wonderful.โ€
