EXPECTATIONS have soared soprano high for St Mary’s Cathedral mid-summer eve concert, welcoming The Choir of St Patrick’s Cathedral this Friday 21 at 7.30pm. A most beautiful programme is planned by the boys’ choir master and organist Mr Stuart Nicholson, and soloists Jeffrey Ledwidge and Eoghan Desmond are confirmed.

All the choristers are educated at the Cathedral Choir School, est. 1432. This boys’ choir, deemed by their peers to be the best in the land, tour annually and France, Denmark, Britain and Sweden have hosted them thus far.

The first half of the concert has works by William Walton, Ralph Vaughan Williams, César Franck and Flor Peeters. Act two will feature Benjamin Britten’s ‘Te Deum in C’ with soloist Matthew Antochi; Charles Villiers Stanford’s ‘Beati quorum via’ and again Britten’s renowned ‘Rejoice in the lamb’. For this joyful classic, soloists Davide Antochi, Jonathan Lycett, Ernest Dines and Jeffrey Ledwidge will each have parts.
