METAL bands Behemoth and Amon Amarth rocked King Johnโ€™s Castle on Monday night June 17 in front of a huge crowd who were treated to loud and epic shows played in a positive, party atmosphere in the setting sun over the Shannon.

Swedish metal band Amon Amarth walked onstage at the ancient Viking site at King Johnโ€™s Castle to reclaim Limerick for just one night to party with us. And thatโ€™s exactly what Limerick got. Pyrotechnics, smoke, Viking warriors doing battle on stage and a tribal and rousing metal show, playing tracks from new record โ€˜Berserkerโ€™ and big hands-in-the-air anthems โ€˜Twilight of the Thunder Godโ€™ and โ€˜Raise Your Hornsโ€™.

Black metallers Behemoth are touring their record โ€˜I Loved You At Your Darkestโ€™. Vocalist/ guitarist Adam Nergal Darski stopped the concert briefly to address the huge crowd on recent attempts to have the bandโ€™s Limerick concert banned.

โ€œCan anything, any court, any authority, any religion, any poison, stop free-thinking music worshipping people? โ€œNo?

โ€œRaise your finger and say โ€˜f*ck, noโ€™.โ€

With the crowd roaring their support for the Polish band, Behemoth launched back into what was the biggest metal event in Limerick …. so far!
