Declan Nash’s Limerick senior camogie side began their championship season with a dramatic 2-16 to 2-12 win over Offaly at LIT Gaelic Grounds.
Limerick trailed by a goal with six minutes of the contest remaining, but hit form to score 1-4 without reply to earn a sensational win.
Rebecca Delee was the star for Limerick with 1-1 in the final stages to see Limerick to victory.
Nash’s charges were 1-7 to 0-8 at the break with Offaly’s goal coming courtesy of Christine Cleary in the fourth minute.
Limerick levelled with three Niamh Mulcahy points, but three Siobhan Flannery placed balls had Offaly in control at the break.
Caoimhe Costello and Mulcahy had Limerick level early in the second half but Flannery, Arlene Watkins and Flannery again saw the game swing once again in Offaly’s favour.
Lisa Leonard was next to score for Limerick, but Delee’s well-taken goal put them 1-11 to 1-10 ahead on 45 minutes. A Mulcahy free then stretched Limerick’s lead to two.
However, Offaly came down the other end of the field and Flannery’s goal put them back in the ascendency.
Limerick upped the pace in the final stages with Mulcahy notching three points – an effort from play and two frees.
That levelled the contest once more and Limerick finished with a flourish with Delee very much to the fore.
They next welcome Wexford in the championship on June 29 at LIT Gaelic Grounds.
