An investigation is underway into the crash, in which three women in the 70′s lost their lives. Another elderly woman has been seriously injured after it happened in Loughill.
There were two cars involved in the accident on the N69 just outside Loughill village on the Listowel side at around 6.30 on Thursday evening.
One of the dead women was the driver of a car involved and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two fatalities were the driver and passenger in the second car,
A third woman, who was travelling in the second car is being treated in University Hospital Limerick for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are asking that anyone with information or who may have dash cam footage to contact Newcastle West Garda Station.
