ALERT: the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s community engagement programme Sing Out with Strings – educating 300 children weekly in music – presents a terrific showcase tomorrow Tuesday. Enjoy ‘The Snail and The Whale’ on Tuesday May 21 at 11am in University Concert Hall at the Foundation building, UL.
“These 300 pupils from Le Chéile N.S and St. Mary’s N.S come together for an unmissable adventure,” reports the Orchestra’s Charlotte Eglington. “The Snail and the Whale by children’s author Julia Donaldson tells the tale of a tiny snail and a great big humpback whale.
“A tiny snail hitches a lift on the tail of a humpback whale and go on an amazing journey. When the whale beaches in a bay, how does the snail save the day?”
Charlotte makes the point that the children, working on instruments given to them by the ICO, have composed original songs that bring “a certain magic and creativity to the adventure.” Members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra will accompany the children along with renowned rock-guitarist Dave Keary, linchpin to Van Morrison’s band.
The invitation is an open one, come along and enjoy a whale of a tale through music and song that originates in Limerick national schools Tickets are just €2 at box office 061-331549.
