TWO days of nostalgia and classic Irish rock in Thurles Tipperary was the runaway success story of 2018. A sold-out crowd of 20,000 heard Irish bands play their best known anthems with the backing of the ICO and the post gig reaction was so strong, and the audience have been straight up in their request for more.
Limerick production company CWB have just announced new additions to the lineup for this year’s festival.
Added to the lineup for this September 20 and 21 is celt-rock legends Horslips playing their hits with the backing of the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Thin Lizzy founders Brian Downey and Eric Bell will perform new arrangements of classic Lizzy songs with special guests. Shane McGowan (The Pogues) will perform with a host of friends from his extended songbook.
Tipp Classical will also feature… deep breath… The Sultans of Ping, Therapy?, Wendy James (Transvision Vamp), The Fat Lady Sings, Mundy, and will welcome back The Frank & Walters, The Stunning for a full set and Something Happens.
The Jerry Fish stage has a compelling lineup of live favourites, The Blizzards, Engine Alley, The Pale, Jack O’Rourke, Bitch Falcon and the impressive new kids, Thumper.
DJ Kormac and Today FM’s Fergal D’Arcy will be on the decks as well as Limerick’s finest Will Leahy and Mickey Mac who rocked the festival in 2018. Dustin The Turkey and The 2 Johnnies will be there messin’ and having the craic.
The food and drink areas will be extended from last year, Food Féile will be curated by chef Kevin Thornton, well loved elements will remain such as the Prosecco Tent and Applemans Secret Garden.
The camping areas will have more capacity.
It is a two day event this year. Tipp Classical happens in Thurles on September 20 and 21. Tickets on sale through Eventbrite via www.TippClassical.com €159.50 (weekend) and €89.50 (per day).
