LIMERICK Jazz Workshops is giving a concert night with circa 30 musicians and singers giving it socks with sax and sass. They are going to play in fast-moving sets rolling out on Wednesday May 1 from 7pm, showcasing end of term ensembles and musicianship.
Dolan’s Upstairs, regular home to Jazz Society and guests, is venue. Look forward to career musicians plus teachers of music leading these accomplished groups that will each have a repertoire to entertain.
“We are starting off at 7pm as we have so many on stage,” explains John Daly of LJS, plus Peter Dee Academy of Music. “First up on stage is the Junior Jazz Ensemble followed by six adult ensembles playing a wide variety of jazz tunes.”
Expect experienced names such as Peter Hanagan on bass, John Daly, percussion plus Steve Hanks on sax leading two ensembles.
Multi-instrumentalist Bryan Meehan leads another couple and composer/ guitarist Joe O’Callaghan is working with his act jazz singers.
“To date this has been a phenomenal success, mainly due to the vision and hard work done by founder Ed Hansom, saxophone player, a great teaching staff,” commented John Daly, Limerick Jazz chairman.
