THE DESMOND International Poetry Competition, inaugurated in 2012 by the late Barney Sheehan of the White House Poetry Revival in honour of Limerick poet Desmond O’Grady, was last held in 2014. The Limerick Writers’ Centre are reviving the competition as part of this year’s “April is Poetry Month in Limerick” festival. The prizewinner will be invited to give a reading of his/her work during the 2020 festival. Poems can be in either Irish or English and closing date for entries is midnight on Saturday, March 16.
