2019’s Angela’s Ashes – The Musical

July 18 to 27 at Lime Tree Theatre

GOOD news for anyone who missed ‘Angela’s Ashes – The Musical’ when it platformed in Lime Tree Theatre two years ago. It returns to the South Circular Road venue in July from Thursday 18 to Saturday 27 and there’s a matinée option.

The first Pat Moylan production was staged with terrific brio and credibility with late arrival Claire Barrett scenestealing as Grandma. Limerick-West End star Jacinta Whyte was a capable Angela and Eoin Cannon  played the romantic escapist Frank.

Stage work on a two-tier level showcased the dowdy interiors to best advantage and the music and lyrics by Adam Howell were intelligent joy.

The musical concept is based on the book by Paul Hurt which, of course, is based on the McCourt memoir. Reviewing the show for Limerick Post in July 2017, Arts Page commented: “Yet producer Pat Moylan, a veteran of success, and director Thom Southerland have made something fine and funny of the McCourt lives raddled by infant death, alcoholism, hunger, sickness, infestation, homelessness. Being Yanks was no help either.”

This Summer note that there are 2pm matinée shows on Saturday July 20 and again Saturday July 27; other shows 8pm. Book on www.limetreetheatre.ie and view the trailer link: https://bit.ly/2rxjQXy
