It’s been some year for Limerick hurling. Winning the Munster Senior Hurling League, getting promotion to Division 1A of the National Hurling League, first All-Ireland in 45 years, six All-Stars, Cian Lynch and Kyle Hayes winning Hurler of the Year and Young Hurler of the Year respectively.
John Kiely’s heroes have now added the Fenway Hurling Classic to the silverware won in 2018 after a 38-30 win over Cork in last night’s final.
After the game, our team in Boston caught up with Graeme Mulcahy and Nickie Quaid. Mulcahy said it was great to play in front of the Limerick fans that travelled to Fenway Park.
“The Limerick community out here, it was obviously massive for them to see us without them having to travel thousands of miles. There is also a massive contingent of Limerick fans that travelled from Ireland to watch us too and massive for them to see us win again.
Quaid added that he thoroughly enjoyed the format of the 11 a side game as it gave goalkeepers a chance to show off their shot stopping ability.
“Making saves and things like that are the enjoyable part of playing in goals and it’s a good game for goalies. It’s great to be here. We have had a great couple of days.”
