“IN whatever place you are, you need to have a few people that you know,” says Christopher Sibanda, one of the members of Limerick’s Sanctuary Runners, a running group aiming to aid integration.
“Speaking from experience myself, it’s been hard to integrate with people, not knowing how to approach them and how to start a conversation really, it’s been really hard,” Christopher told the Limerick Post.
Founding member of the Sanctuary Runners, Graham Clifford, said the group allows Irish people run “with and in solidarity” with people living in direct provision.
Sanctuary Runners Limerick will meet regularly as a group with a goal of taking part in the Bon Secours Great Limerick Run in 2019.
“We started in February in Cork, and we had 200 people running in the Cork City Marathon,” Graham Clifford told the Post.
“150 of those Irish, and 50 from the five Direct Provision Centres across Cork, so now we’re looking forward to getting people in Limerick involved.”
