EACH of them established as ensemble leaders and composers when they first played together in 2010, Myriad3 enjoyed their mutual swing so much that nine years and several albums later, the band is thriving.
“It was by default that the Canadian trio of Chris, Dan and Ernesto ever played together at all,” reports John Daly of Limerick Jazz Society. LJS will host the band on Wednesday October 24 in Dolan’s groovy Upstairs venue. “Since 2010 they are a tight-playing unit. Back in 2015 they were nominated for a Juno Award and Sirious Radio XM Indie Music Award for ‘The Where’ album.”
Touring Europe currently, Chris Donnelly is pianist, Ernesto Cervino is on percussion and Dan Fortini is a bass player in demand with other groups and in eclectic genres.
“Most of the stuff Myriad3 do is original, contemporary composition and ensemble playing with improvisation. These are three excellent musicians. I’ve watched a couple of videos of them playing live over the years and their music and their playing together has matured beautifully.
“Myriad3 is our second only Canadian act ever. Last year Seamus Black, a famous drummer, was supposed to play in Limerick for us but he was called away on tour. He’s coming towards us next year with a quartet.
Back to Myriad3. “They fly into Limerick on Wednesday October 24 for the gig, their only performance in Ireland. On then to Edinburgh to play a concert the very next day.”
