LIMERICK has been on somewhat of a winning streak and with it is Gillian Shannon from Noonan Dental Care in Limerick who scooped the prestigious title of Kin Dental Hygienist of The Year in November 2017. Now Noonan Dental Care has been nominated for Dental Team of the Year; all three dentists have been nominated for Colgate Caring Dentist of the Year 2018.
So, it is big smiles all around in Ellen Street.
The volume of nominations that Gillian received from her patients resulted in her making the top five finalists in the country. From there she published a patient document focused on children’s oral health which caught the eye of the judges for its health literacy and overall content.
The Awards ceremony took place in Dublin where Noonan Dental Care’s Gillian was presented with a cheque for €1000, a trophy, a certificate and a medal.
Gillian told Limerick Post, “I truly feel blessed that I get to work in a job that I feel incredibly passionate about and it has been hugely rewarding and encouraging, knowing that my patients and academics in my field have acknowledged this.
“I also feel incredibly fortunate to work for Dr Eamonn Noonan who has been a rock of support from day one.”
Gillian, who has been working as a dental hygienist since 2013, is no stranger to awards. As a student her skills and potential were acknowledged by the Medical Faculty in UCC when she won The Dentsply Student Hygienist of the year, again one of the highest accolades in this field.
