US songwriter/ producer Joe Henry, in a career that spans 30 years and counting, has released 15 critically acclaimed albums of this own music including ‘Shuffletown’ in 1990 and most recently ‘Thrum’ in 2017.
He has produced albums for a staggering list of artists including Kristin Hersh, Solomon Burke, Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, Rodney Crowell, Aaron Neville, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, Hugh Laurie, Billy Bragg and 2011’s ‘Passenger’ album by Lisa Hannigan. Joe Henry has picked up four Grammy awards along the way.
As a songwriter, he is very much his own man and not easily categorised, experimenting with everything from folk, blues, jazz, rock to country.
Interestingly, Joe married Melanie Ciccone in 1987 and he co-wrote a bunch of songs for his sister in law Madonna Louise Ciccone including the country tinged global hit ‘Don’t Tell Me’.
Joe Henry performs at Dolan’s this Friday October 5.
