THE Limerick Labour Party will facilitate a public meeting for the campaign to re-elect Michael D Higgins as President of Ireland at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel on Monday, October 1 at 7pm.
Michael D will be running as an Independent candidate in the forthcoming election and the campaign in Limerick will be affiliated to his national campaign.
Chairperson of the Limerick Labour Party, Tom Shortt said called on anyone who shares Michael D’s vision for Ireland to come along on October 1 and to come out and canvas for him.
“I was involved in leading Michael D’s campaign in 2011 and I can’t stress enough the importance of knocking on doors and meeting people to get the Michael D vote out,” he added.
Limerick Labour TD Jan O’Sullivan commented, “We want to do everything possible to maintain, or grow that vote and with a cross section of support from across the community we can do that.”
Along with the Labour Party, President Higgins has the support of both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
The 77 year-old has held the office of President since 2011 and revealed earlier this summer that he would seek re-election. He has refused to say whether he will take part in debates against his rivals in next month’s presidential election.
