Lunchtime at the Cathedral

WE’VE mentioned the Razene Wind Ensemble from Hungary’s recital this Friday August 3 in St Mary’s Cathedral at 1.15pm previously. Free to all, it sits easily in this vibrant summery programme of concerts that welcomes all communities to the 850 year old sacred venue. Friday’s music is by Charpentier, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Shostakovich and Brahms.

On to Wednesday 8 next when two members of the distinguished RTE ConTempo Quartet, Andreea Banciu and Adrian Mantu will play with pianist Aileen Cahill. Look forward to works by Shostakovich and Brahms as well as a rarely heard sonata by Rebecca Clarke.

Contributions to the passive collection that funds this year-long string of professional concerts are welcome; at your discretion.

Chamber Philharmonia Cologne

“TO INSPIRE people across the world to enjoy classical music – that’s what we view as our maxim.” These words introduce the Chamber Philharmonia Cologne, a German ensemble that travels to tour Ireland, the UK and Europe each summer.

CPC will pitch up at St Flannan’s Cathedral, Killaloe on Sunday August 5 for an 8pm concert; ticket at the door only.

The programme will feature works of Vivaldi, Mozart and Paganini played by the musicians, all soloists as much as ensemble.
