ST MARY’S Cathedral hosts some beautiful concerts this summer within its regular lunchtime programme, always 1.15pm on weekdays.
Today Thursday July 26 doors open for the CUE Choral Ambassadors, touring Ireland until the end of the month. CUE Choral Ambassadors are the premier ensemble representing America’s YouthCUE International, a network of more than 700 high school and university choirs.
Founded and directed by Randolph Edwards, Peter Barley of St Mary’s tells us that their repertoire is a capella and the choir of 24 singers have music by Paul Manz and John Rutter in mind for us.
Next there is a rare and wonderful Hungarian recital on Friday August 3, 1.15pm. As with all of these midday concerts, everybody is welcome and it’s free in; there is a retiring donation to help this city centre series grow.
The Razene Wind Ensemble (1974) is the wind orchestra of the Bela Bartok Music School Budapest, in Limerick directed by one of its founders, Csaba Dely. Razene will play music by Charpentier, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Shostakovich and Brahms.
