The Hill’s €8,000 Limerick Film bursary

RECALL that Film was one of the pillars to Limerick’s City of Culture glory year, 2014. Film Limerick was the company formed to filter,  fund and foster new works and to promote the city and region as an industry hub. The bid was to win more national and international film making here.

Sound engineer and specialist Ronan Cassidy headed up Film Limerick. Ronan Cassidy has spent his adult life in the loop of film making locally and bigger projects. That his uncle Patrick Cassidy has contributed to scores such as ‘Hannibal’ and worked on dozens of starry commission was no load to carry  and Patrick helped to mentor Culture’s young guns.

Ronan is now working as a producer with Carbonated Comet Productions, the private company has just won the inaugural ‘Limerick Short Film Bursary’. Its welcome €8000 will go towards his production of ‘The Hill’, written by and to be directed by Limerick’s Peter McNamara (‘Narcan’, ‘Day Off’).

Not yet cast, Arts page is told that “we intend to have the film shot by the Autumn and we will be sourcing key supporting cast and crew members from Limerick.

“We hope to premier the film at the 2019 Galway Film Fleadh, as this is the first Oscar-qualifying festival of the Irish season.

“We may also organise a cast and crew screening prior to the film’s official Irish premiere”.
