Pop-up park to let dogs off the leash

SECTIONS of Limerick’s public parks should be ring-fenced as pet zones so people can let their dogs “off the leash in peace.”

That’s according to Limerick Fianna Fáil councillor James Collins who says that other local authorities have experimented with pop up parks for dogs and he believes Mungret Park would be an ideal spot in Limerick.

“Mungret Park is a wonderful civic amenity that hundreds of people use every weekend, but you have to keep your dog on a leash. There’s plenty of land there, enough certainly to set one portion aside as a pop-up pet park.

Cllr Collins said he likes bringing his own dog for walks there and is often stopped by other pet owners who ask him about the possibility of having a pet-friendly area.

“In Limerick, we love our pets,” Cllr Collins said, suggesting a pop-up pet park should be tried on a trial basis in at least one of Limerick’s parks.
