A YOUNG Limerick woman, who has taken the whole idea of a high-flying career to the next level, will be coming home to show others the ropes in how to get to the top this month.
Limerick trapeze and aerial artist Jess O’Connor is back in her hometown to teach a series of circus workshops in trapeze, rope, silks and aerial hoop at the Irish Aerial Creation Centre in Limerick from May 26 to 27.
“Workshops are open to a variety of levels whether your an absolute beginner or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone,” she told the Limerick Post.
A Limerick native, she trained at the Limerick City Gymnastics Club. She studied at The National Centre for Circus Arts in London on the full-time degree programme where she specialised in swinging trapeze.
Not your average college course, she also got her stripes in circus skills including aerial hoop, silk, rope, static trapeze, Spanish web and acrobatics.
Jess has performed all over the world from New York to Hong Kong and all over Europe as both a soloist and as part of an ensemble.
She has worked with outfits like NoFit State Circus and the LUXe Landscape Theatre as well as productions for Tommy Hilfiger, Deezer/Fitbit and the Chinese New Year Night Parade in Hong Kong.
Jess will be running three workshops over the weekend, is open to everyone over 16 years of age and no experience is necessary.
The second and third workshops will be of a more advanced nature and there will be some prerequisites, like being able to climb confidently. However, Jess promises that students will “soon get the hang of it”.
