The Irish Chamber Orchestra’s long-established community engagement programme SING OUT WITH STRINGS celebrates a decade of music with a showcase performance, TEN! on Wednesday 30 May at University Concert Hall at 12 noon.

300 children from Le Cheile N.S, St. Mary’s N.S, Thomond Community College and Coláiste Nano Nagle come together for TEN!, an unmissable celebration. This rollercoaster of music, creativity and fun also features colourful artwork by the students, reflecting a decade of productivity. Join the ICO’s SING OUT WITH STRINGS troupe for a feast of music and song as they celebrate the youthful expression of melodies, rhythms, harmonies and sounds that move your body and soul.  A selection of genres including Classical, Rap, Blue Grass and Pop feature in an array of new songs and music composed by the children especially for the occasion.  Thanks to funding from Music Network’s Music Capital Scheme, the orchestra has expanded to a complete mini-chamber orchestra.

Members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra will be joined by special guests, renowned rock-guitarist Dave Keary and master of percussion, Noel Eccles.  Music facilitator and tutor, Shirley Keane will direct this innovative showcase.

SING OUT WITH STRINGS works to develop strong musical ability, but with an added emphasis on the transferrable skills that will help children in other areas of the curriculum and throughout their lives as they grow.  Through workshops, rehearsals and performances, children explore their abilities as musicians and gain that sense of joy and achievement that comes from working and playing together.

Inspired by Venezuela’s El Sistema, SING OUT WITH STRINGS provides free tuition in singing, song writing, violin and cello to 300 children on a weekly basis throughout Limerick City. The purpose is to develop not only musical skills, but key life skills using music as a tool for tangible social change.  The SING OUT WITH STRINGS programme has enabled more than 750 children to learn to play orchestral instruments and perform publically over the past decade.

So, come on along and celebrate our ten-year success story with SING OUT WITH STRINGS at University Concert Hall on Wednesday 30 May at 12 noon.
