Ortec confirms commitment to County Limerick jobs

-

A COUNTY Limerick based company who announced plans to create 110 new jobs more than 18 months ago has allayed fears of job creation and says that it is still fully committed to the plans.

Ortec Inc., a leading biomaterial and polymer technology company serving the life sciences industry, announced in September 2016 that it would set up their EU headquarters, Manufacturing and Operations Centre in Newcastle West, creating up to 110 skilled engineering and science jobs in the region over the next several years once the plant is operational.

The project was supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

At the time, Ortec Inc.’s Senior Vice President Christopher Brotherton said that this was the firm’s first “exciting” investment outside of the US and a result of a “great collaboration”.

However, this week, Limerick TD Niall Collins, the Fianna Fail spokesperson on trade and foreign affairs asked the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation as to the status of the start up and job creation in Newcastle West and in particular Ortec’s announcement made more than 18 months ago.

Allaying fears that the project is dormant, Minister Heather Humphrey’s said that “the IDA is in regular contact with Ortec Inc about its investment plans.

“I understand that the company has confirmed that it remains fully committed to the establishment of the facility in Limerick and it is working closely with stakeholders locally to progress the project.”

Ortec Inc previously announced that it will commence its manufacturing operation in a leased building at Newcastle West Business Park and double capacity at the facility.

Founded in 1980 and headquartered in Easley, South Carolina, the privately owned company offers custom materials used in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and other health related FDA/EMA regulated industries.
