A YOUNG mother who was told she has terminal cancer after a misdiagnosed test has settled her High Court case for €2.5 million.
Vicky Phelan from Annacotty sued the pathology laboratory that failed to alert her to the presence of suspected cancerous cells in a smear test in 2011.
Speaking to the Limerick Post immediately after the settlement, she said she has refused to sign a confidentiality clause on the settlement.
“It doesn’t mean they are not culpable but it gives me the money to buy time and get involved in new drug trials,” she said.
She also revealed that her first dose of a new drug which she had to fight to be allowed use is already bringing some relief and hope for her and her family.
