Talk on Brendan O’Regan to take place in Mary Immaculate College

The Thomond Archaeological and Historical Society are hosting a talk on Brendan O’Regan in Room T. 1. 17 Tara Building in Mary Immaculate College, South Circular Road, Limerick on Monday 23 April 2018 at 8.00pm.

Brendan O’Regan, was the person responsible for initiating the idea of the world’s first duty free shop at Shannon Airport, which became the model for other such shops throughout the world.

In addition to this, he was responsible for establishing the Shannon College of Hotel Management, Shannon Free Airport Development Company. He was the founder of Co-Operation North, the Irish Peace Institute and was Chairman of Bórd Fáilte. These are just some of the organisations he was involved in.

If you want to learn more about the man come to this talk. It will be given jointly by Mr Cian O’Carroll and Mr Brian O’Connell. Cian O’Carroll is a Heritage Tourism Consultant and former CEO of Shannon Heritage and has edited new editions of Lenihan’s and Dowd’s histories of Limerick. He is also a former President of the Thomond Archaeological and Historical Society. Brian O’Connell, is a former chairman of Shannon Heritage, the State company which operates a network of cultural tourism venues.

He is a member of the Hunt Museum Trust, in addition to being the author of ‘John Hunt, The Man, the Medievalist and The Connoisseur’ in 2013. He also initiated the publication of an oral archive on regional development pioneer, Brendan O’Regan in 2004.
