GARDAI in Limerick have intercepted and arrested a man who was armed with a loaded gun and extra ammunition near the city’s train station on Monday evening.
As a result of an intelligence led operation, Gardaí from Limerick city stopped and searched a 25-year-old man, in the vicinity of Colbert Station, and found him to be in possession with a loaded firearm.
The firearm (subject to ballistic examination) was located in a backpack along with some loose ammunition, according to a garda spokesperson.
The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Roxboro Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State, Act, 1939/98 as amended.
Investigations are ongoing.
