The next Limerick Historical Society lecture will be given by Liam Cahill, former RTE correspondent.
Liam will speak about the Limerick Soviet and it ison Monday April 9th next, at 8 p.m. in Room 203, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
Everybody is welcome. Liam Cahill is an authority on the Limerick Soviet
which was a strike that lasted from 15 to 27 April 1919. It was organised by the Limerick Trades and Labour Council, as a protest against the British Army declaring a ‘Special Military Area’, which covered most of Limerick.
The soviet ran the city for the period, printed its own money and organised
food supplies.
Liam Cahill is a journalist and public relations consultant. He is author of the best-selling book
from 1990 Forgotten Revolution – The Limerick Soviet 1919 which is now a collector’s item. Liam is revising and re-editing the book for publication next year to coincide with the centenary. Liam is also founder and editor of the popular website for fans of
