GARDAI made a televised appeal on Monday night for information about the murder of Jeffrey Hannan that happened yards from his home more than a decade ago.
The fresh appeal in relation to the death of the 19-year-old was made during Crimecall that aired on RTÉ One television on Monday night.
Jeffrey Hannan was brutally murdered not far from his home on November 22, 2007 and for more than ten years, Alan Hannan and his family have agonised over his death.
A decade after his son was bludgeoned to death after a row with a group in O’Malley Park, Southill, Alan Hannan started to raise funds for a reward to find his son’s killers as he maintains he knows the identity of his son’s killer.
Upwards of 20 arrests have been made and investigation files have been sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, but Jeffrey’s killer remains at large.
Detective Paul Crowley renewed the appeal for the assistance of the public and said that Jeffrey’s family deserve to see justice and appealed directly to the “people in the Southill community who know what happened to Jeffrey Hannan, who know who murdered him, to come forward and to speak with us now”.
Earlier this year, Mr Hannan received an anonymous donation to start a reward fund for information leading to a prosecution and conviction and told the Limerick Post that he will leave the fund open for donations for two years in the hope that someone comes forward.
“Money talks, but if nothing happens in two years, the money will be donated to charity”, he said.
Over the ten-year period, at least 20 people have been questioned over Alan’s death and even when a potential witness came forward earlier this year and offered information to Gardaí about the murder, nothing materialised.
“A file was prepared for the Director of Prosecutions, but I then got a letter to say they would not be proceeding”.
It has been described as aa “complex and detailed inquiry” by Gardai but Mr Hannan believes that people know what happened but are just too afraid to say it.
The “Reward for Jeffrey Hannan” GoFundMe page remains open and has a goal of €10,000 to be raised.
