Last Friday evening over 170 Blood Donors from across the Mid West were acknowledged for their long term commitment to Giving Blood at a special Awards Ceremony in the Greenhills Hotel.
Amongst those receiving Awards were 66 Blood Donors from Limerick. 5 of these Donors received an Award of a Porcelain Pelican in recognition of donating blood 100 times. These Donors were Karen Coady, Ennis Rd, Limerick, John Madden, Caherdavin, Limerick, George Quain, Grange, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, Pat Sweeney, Broadford, Co Limerick and Tony Tuohy, Drombane, Co Limerick. 61 Limerick Blood Donors were presented with a Gold pin to mark their 50 Blood Donation including brothers Seamus and Thomas Laffan from Boher Co Limerick who both donated their 50th unit of Blood in Caherconlish in June 2017.
The presentations were made by Professor Anthony Staines, Chairperson of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. Aileen Browne, Area Manager with the IBTS said that the Awards Ceremony is an opportunity for the Irish Blood Transfusion Service to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of these Blood Donors from the Mid West Region who over many years have been quietly saving lives by regularly donating Blood. Mayor of Limerick City and County Cllr Stephen Keary also attended and added his thanks to these local heroes.
