DJ / Producer Kormac collaboration with ICO debuts this week

DJ/Beatmaker/Composer Kormac is collaborating with the Irish Chamber Orchestra here in Limerick on a project titled Equivalent Exchange which will get its live debut in Vicar Street, Dublin on March 18.

Cormac O’Halloran (aka Kormac) started out as a hip hop scratch DJ developing his unique productions with beats and soulful samples.
Kormac’s last album Doorsteps featured collaborations with Irvine Welsh and Speech Debelle and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize. 2017’s hit ‘I Believe’ was a dancefloor banger.
His shows with Kormac’s Big Band bringing live drums, strings and brass to his recordings are legendary and a festival favorite.

The Equivalent Exchange is his most ambitious project yet featuring over 30 musicians bringing together the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Kormac’s Big Band and guest, hotly tipped vocalists Loah and renowned composer and conductor Eimear Noone.

Kormac studied composition and production in Bulgaria last year working with Europe’s leading composers and conductors. These studies informed a new approach to creating music using his new orchestral training.

His management team confirmed that Kormac has, “ applied this to his own writing process, forgoing his usual way of working but also in how he is working with the artists he is collaborating with for the show, bringing them songs and ideas at an earlier stage than he normally would.
“In this way, he is giving up his usual level of control over the songwriting, allowing the collaboration to develop something completely new.”

Kormac and the ICO and guests perform in this “one-off” show at Vicar Street, Dublin on March 18.

Equivalent Exchange would be a wonderful performance to bring to a Limerick venue in the near future, perhaps UCH, St. Mary’s Cathedral or Limerick Milk Market? Stay tuned for updates.
