ST PATRICK’s Festival 2018 in Limerick springs to an early start, ushering in the Amarillo Girl Concert Choir on Tuesday March 13 to perform at Mount St Alphonsus Church of the Redemptorists. These angels will sing at 8pm and entry is free to all, with any donations going to the ongoing mission of the Church.
Hailed as one of the top youth choirs in Texas, the 40 voice-choir aged from eight to 18 will travel around Ireland performing in different towns during their venture here.
Returning to Ireland after her summer fact-finding visit last year, Melanie Brooks, artistic director of Choral Programmes at Amarillo Youth Choirs Inc, says the concert choir is “We are really looking forward to coming to Limerick and performing our range of both American and Irish popular and well-known songs.”
The night will include a world premier written especially for the choir’s tour to Ireland. The ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ has been composed by Dr BJ Brooks, associate director of Amarillo Youth Choirs and “it reflects all things ‘Irish’ in its lyrics and catchy, accessible tunes”.
