Fine Gael Senator, Maria Byrne, has welcomed the announcement by Edwards Lifesciences that it intends to create 600 jobs in Shannon.
Senator Byrne said the move is a particular endorsement for the Mid-West of Ireland.
Senator Byrne said: “This is a tremendous boost of confidence for Shannon and the Mid-West.
“Edwards Lifesciences has had Irish operations for nearly 20 years and this is another example of our committed and skilled workers acting as ambassadors for the Irish economy to attract additional investment. The company is a global leader in patient-focused innovations for structural heart disease and critical care monitoring”
“As part of the Irish Government Brexit’s strategy, the IDA, the Central Bank and the Department of Finance have made many of their officials available to provide advice so that we can attract as much investment to offset many of the threats Brexit has led to.
“This is another vote of confidence in Ireland and its expanding sector. It shows that our track record, pro-business environment, highly skilled workforce and an unwavering commitment to the European single market continues to appeal to investors.
“Every job created in our area, creates at least another three jobs, providing many opportunities for local residents as well as attracting talented individuals.
“Brexit is unquestionably a bad thing for Ireland overall. However it does provide some opportunities and it is vital these opportunities are capitalised on in order to offset the overall negativity.”
