Decade long appeal over Limerick man’s suspicious death

TEN years after his body was found at his home, the family of Raymond Mullane (60) have renewed their appeal for information into his death.

On Christmas Eve 2008, the body of the 60-year-old was found in an upstairs bedroom at his home on Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston.

Mr Mullane, who lived alone, died in his home in what was thought to be natural causes, however a later post mortem found a he suffered stab wound which punctured the heart of the 60-year-old.

Gardai are treating the death as suspicious and Monday night’s Crimecall on RTE heard from Raymond’s brother Christy, that the family are hoping for a lead that will bring light to what happened the 60-year-old before his death.

Speaking on the RTE Garda programme, Christy said that his brother had a heart of gold.

“Ten years later we are here talking about him coming up to (what would have been) his 70th birthday and we should be planning it.

“What happened him is very very sad, it’s heartbreaking, all we want is closure”, Mr Mullane’s brother said as he asked that anyone with any bit of information would “just ring the guards, a small bit of information could lead to bigger things thats all we are asking for”.

Gardai said that they are now focusing on what happened during Christmas week and Mr Mullane’s movements.

Detective Garda Paul Crowley of Roxboro Road gardai station asked that if people who felt they could not come forward at the time – for whatever reason – “would now ask them to come forward and speak to us with whatever information they might have,” he said.

The Limerick detective said that the smallest piece of information could unlock the case.

“I believe there is information within the community in Limerick in respect of the suspicious death of Raymond Mullane,” he added.

Gardai at Roxboro Road garda station can be contacted at 061 214340 or Crimecall at 1800 405060.
