Kubrick By Candlelight screens at University Concert Hall on Monday 26, part of The Richard Harris International Film Festival screening of short films

RHIFF Shorts at UCH

Join The Richard Harris International Film Festival as they screen a series of entertaining short films at UCH this Monday February 26 from 7.30pm. This collection of seven short films is currently on the festival circuit internationally.
The lineup features KUBRICK BY CANDLEIGHT directed by David O’Reilly: a light hearted romantic comedy set behind the scenes of the filming of Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon and narrated by Brian Cox. ACORN directed by Kevin de la Isla O’Neill is the story of a busy-body mother Maureen battling principal Finan during a parent-teacher meeting about her son Greg and his unusual behaviour during the school’s nativity play rehearsals. DUFFY directed by Sam Eather: where a rugby player must confront the one incident in his life that has always haunted him.
Screening at UCH this Monday February 26 from 7.30pm.

Zombie Picnic

HEAR Limerick prog/ post-rock instrumentalists have completed a video for their new single ‘Anger in Storage (Denial Will Follow)’ now available as a free download. Their second album ‘Rise of a New Ideology’ drops on vinyl on March 9 on their own label Golden Shred.
Anger in Storage (Denial Will Follow) thunders out of the traps and is a taste of what is to come from the full album.
Jim Griffin (guitar), Dave Tobin (guitar), Brian Fitzgerald (bass) and Brendan Miller (drums) recorded the album at GAF Studios, Tipperary and mastered by Richard Dowling of WAV Mastering.
Zombie Picnic will launch the album at Kasbah Social Club on March 9.

PowPig

CHECK out new Limerick band PowPig who have just won the regional qualifiers of the Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs). PowPig wowed LYS’ Lava Javas Youth Café with their songs ‘Sticky Teeth’ and ‘Birds of Paradise’ and the all girl group, Anna Rooney, Leah O’Donnell, Laura Drennan and Andrea Mocanu were delighted to have won
“The other acts were very good and to be voted number one by them was an honour,” said Laura, adding “tonight’s performances were a great reflection of the strong youth music scene in Limerick.”
At the national finals, PowPig will perform Aaron Maloney’s song, Wisdom after the Shannon teenager won the songwriting category.

Limerick Youth Theatre

See Frank Wedekind’s Spring Awakening directed by Shane Hickey-O’Mara. From Limerick Youth Theatre, this is a modernist work which places the trials and tribulations of teenagers at its centre. Addressing issues of mental illness, morality, abortion, abuse, suicide, sexuality and consent, this is a play about discovery, desire and the loss of innocence. Working with 28 transition year students from schools in Limerick city and county, the play will be staged by the Transition Year Theatre (TYT) Company at Dance Limerick on February 27 and 28.
