EMPLOYERS in the Mid West can learn of the variety of staff upskilling courses available as part of the 2018 Springboard Government funded education programmes.

Springboard+ offers Government funded Higher Education programmes to assist people to retrain or upskill in various industry sectors.

Joe Leddin, Manager of the Mid West Regional Skills Forum said that “as part of the 2018 Springboard programme which is administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), eligibility has now been extended to full time employees regardless of what sector they are employed in.

To facilitate engagement between employers, industry representative groups and higher education providers an information briefing will take place on Monday January 29 at 6 pm in Workbench, Bank of Ireland.

“Springboard presents a tremendous opportunity and vehicle for employers to engage with educational providers namely University of Limerick and Limerick Institute of Technology in the design and delivery of flexible short term accredited courses.

“All courses offered must reflect the current and importantly future skill needs of industry within each region”, Mr Leddin said.

With the world of work continually changing brought about by advances in technology, increased automation and digitisation employees require continuous upskilling to enable them perform new job roles and tasks.

Springboard presents employers particularly small and medium sized enterprises within various industry sectors the platform to influence the design and provision of courses to meet specific sectoral skill requirements.

The number one determining factor by companies in choosing to scale up or locate in particular locations is talent availability.

The Mid West has a strong educational offering and the Governments Springboard programme can contribute towards the building of skilled talent pipelines across industry sectors through continued collaboration between education and industry on what programmes best meet our region’s needs.
