Work on Killaloe by-pass to star next year

-

WORK on the new by-pass for Killaloe is due to begin in early 2019 with €500,000 allocated by Clare County Council in this year’s road grants to purchase the lands needed for the project.

The bypass is part of a wider project which includes a new bridge over the River Shannon and the R494 improvement scheme to upgrade the existing road from Ballina to the N7 at Birdhill.

The new bridge will cross the river a kilometre south of the existing bridge, which is a well-known traffic bottleneck. The bypass will be built around the western side of the town.

Some of the land necessary for the project has already been acquired and progress is being made in talks with landowners to acquire the rest.
