#BREAKING Major search and rescue operation underway in Limerick

DIVERS have entered the River Shannon as part of a major search and rescue operation in the city this Tuesday morning.

Emergency Services were alerted to an incident where a person entered the water at Shannon Bridge at around 5:20am.

Three units from Limerick City Fire and Rescue along with Fireswift attended the scene along with search crews from Limerick Marine Search and Rescue.

As of 8am this Tuesday morning, the full scale search operation with Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and Limerick city fire and rescue service, saw swift water rescue swimmers and divers search the area, however no one was found.

Both service responders launched rescue boats and carried out an extensive search of the area before Limerick Marine Search and Rescue launched a dive operation.

Searches will be continue by both groups along with crew members with the Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 115 which will provide air support to the operations.

It is understood that the man was seen on Garda CCTV entering the water at the bridge.

Searches will continue this morning.
