Limerick’s Mary Immaculate College has launched a project that will enable students track their progress towards their undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.
The UNIT-e management information system features a Student Advantage app that will allow students use their smartphone or tablet to monitor their progress as they complete their studies.
This will allow them track their performance and see what action is needed to ensure they get a good result at the end of their degree programme.
Kieran Pearse, director of ICT services at Mary Immaculate College, says: “Our students increasingly want to be in the driving seat when it comes to managing their studies and we want to do all we can to support them in achieving their full potential while they are with us”.
The move comes as part of a major project at the college designed to give students secure access to a wider range of information on their mobile devices.
Using the Student Advantage app, a student can see what grade they gained and send an instant message asking for additional support, all in a few swipes of their screen.
Lecturers will also benefit from Capita’s Staff Advantage app.
Brenda Morris, managing director of Capita Education Software Solutions, says: “Students today have incredibly high expectations of their institutions, and rightly so. We are thrilled to be partnering with Mary Immaculate College to put the information students want to drive their own progress straight into their pockets and help staff support students when they need help.”
The changes will also see applications moving online with Capita’s UNIT-e management information system, so students will be able to make course choices, saving them time and easing the burden of administration on the institution’s administrative staff.
The new system will be a hosted solution, so support and upgrades are managed by Capita, freeing up the college’s staff to focus on enhancing students’ experience.
