Veteran peace activist leads march on Shannon airport

-

82-year-old Margaretta D’Arcy, who was jailed for trespassing on to the main runway at Shannon Airport in 2012, led a march on the airport by anti-war protestors early this morning.

Ms D’Arcy led the group of about 15 women on the 2km walk to the main terminal building to show their opposition to the continuing use of the Mid West airport by US military.

The women had been taking part in a 25-hour peace vigil organised by Shannon Airport Women’s Peace Camp to coincide with Nollaig na mBan.

After marching to the airport building, the women sat and sang peace songs before returning to the peace camp at Drumgeely.
