A DRIVER had a lucky escape after he was hijacked in County Limerick during the early hours of this Tuesday morning last.
Gardai said that the frightening incident occurred when the injured party was driving by the Gortboy area of Newcastle west in a blue Volkswagen Jetta.
The man was flagged down by three males on the approach to Newcastle West town near the to the Tesco entrance.
Having stopped to see what the three wanted, Gardai said that the man was forced into driving these males to Askeaton.
“When they arrived in Askeaton around 1am, the driver of the vehicle was then assaulted by the three males after trying to flee from them, Garda Lousie Jordan said.
The Limerick garda went on to say that all three culprits then fled on foot and ran towards the soccer pitch in Askeaton.
“We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to this incident.
The driver was left quite shaken and upset by this incident and gardai are appealing for any members of the public that might have been in the vicinity of the Gortboy area in Newcastle West or Askeaton town at this time of the night and noticed an altercation or even observed three males acting suspicious in either town.
