GARDAÍ are investigating the theft of a Limerick mayoral chain from a local councillor’s car as a public appeal is launched for its return.

Independent councillor Frankie Daly, who was acting as deputy for the Mayor at a recent reception, left the chain in the glove box of his car. However, the following morning the gold-and-silver insignia had been stolen from the car which was parked outside his home in the Irish Estates, Corbally.

A number of other items were taken from Cllr Daly’s car, including Christmas presents, and his son’s passport.

The chain, valued at €10,000, also had significant historic value as it marked the amalgamation of Limerick City and County Councils in 2014.

Mayorstone Gardaí are investigating and can be contacted at 061 456980.
