THE LIMERICK player who holds the €5.8 million winning lottery ticket has been in touch with National Lottery headquarters, it has been confirmed.
A spokesman for the National Lottery told the Limerick Post that the holder of the ticket – described only as a “Limerick player” – was in touch to confirm the winning numbers.
The person was described as a single ticket holder. It is understood that rumours of a city Garda syndicate being the winners are now unlikely to be true.
“What happens is that the caller reads out the numbers on their ticket and we confirm that those are the winning numbers. Having done that, we give some guidance about getting legal and financial advice and we hope that that is what is happening at the moment,” the spokesman said.
The caller did not specify when they might come to Dublin to claim the prize and the National Lottery must see the actual, signed ticket before they can pay out.
Earlier this week, National Lottery officials visited the post office on Cecil Street where the winning Lotto ticket was sold for Saturday’s jackpot, worth €5,868,553.
Players have 90 days from the date of the draw to claim the life-changing prize.
This is the 11th Lotto jackpot won this year, with total winnings of a mega €65 million.
The €5 Quick Pick ticket was sold in the GPO on Saturday November 25. This is the second Lotto jackpot won in Limerick in 2017.
The winning Lotto numbers were: 04, 16, 18, 24, 32, 35 and the bonus number was 46.
