IRFU seek replacement for Tierney

-

A REPLACEMENT for Tom Tierney as the Ireland women’s head coach is now being sought by the IRFU after the Limerick man stepped down from the role at the end of this year’s World Cup campaign.

This week, the IRFU advertised the part-time role following the eight-placed finish in last August’s World Cup campaign headed up by the 41-year-old Limerick man.

Despite the three World Cup loses and a drop in rankings of the elite women’s team, Tom Tierney said that he was proud of the three years at the helm.

He is expected to stay on with the IRFU but it is not yet known in what capacity.

Applications for the role close on October 27. next and the IRFU has stated that it is looking for the role to be filled on part-time/casual basis despite Tom Tierney holding a full-time position.

The role will look to transition to the Rugby World Cup sevens competition in San Francisco next year.
