IRELAND rugby head coach Joe Schmidt delivered a leadership talk to members of the Mid West business community at the Dell EMC campus in Limerick as part of the Limerick Chamber Regional Leaders’ programme.

The programme is being delivered by Limerick Chamber in collaboration with Dell EMC and the University of Limerick.

The address was the fourth in a series of leadership talks that have been hosted at the Dell EMC campus in Limerick. Each of these inspirational talks are private sessions for the 150 participants from across the Mid-West signed up to the programme. A number of mentoring sessions have also been successfully organised over the past nine months.

The New Zealand-born Joe Schmidt is the Ireland rugby head coach, having taken up the role in 2013. His successful career to date includes coaching the national team to the 2014 and 2015 Six Nations Championship titles. Joe also led the Leinster rugby team to victory, winning both the 2011 and 2012 Heineken Cup.

Joe Schmidt commented: “Leadership tends to change over time or demands different skills in different circumstances but as John Wooden stated ‘the most powerful leadership tool you have is your own personal example.’”

Joe Schmidt delivered an hour long talk to the attendees with an open question and answer session held at the end of the event.

Speaking about the Limerick Chamber Regional Leaders’ programme, Timmy O’Dwyer, Vice-President, Global Parts Operations and Limerick Site Leader for Dell EMC, said: “Dell EMC is delighted to be working with the Limerick Chamber and the University of Limerick on this exciting programme which showcases the key leadership skills required to support growth and development in the Mid-West region. To date we’ve had some incredible business leaders speaking as part of the programme. Today it was great for participants to have the opportunity to hear a different perspective on leadership from such an inspiring leader like Joe.  The impact of the Limerick Chamber Regional Leaders’ Programme is already evident and with plans for the programme to continue into 2018 I think it will continue to grow in importance as we strive to develop a new generation of business leaders within the region.”

Dr. Philip O’Regan, Dean of The Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, said: “The Kemmy Business School is delighted to be working with Limerick Chamber and Dell EMC on this initiative. The quality of speakers, the ongoing commitment of participants and the interaction with mentors is evidence of an energy that augurs well for the economy in this region and its ongoing development.”

Dr. James Ring, CEO, Limerick Chamber, said: “The Regional Leaders’ Programme, organised with the support of Dell EMC and the University of Limerick, has proven to be very popular with the business community in the Mid-West. We’re delighted that on this occasion Joe Schmidt was able to provide his winning insights that will inspire our participants to be ambitious and grow their business.

Given the significant success of the inaugural series of talks held this year, the Limerick Chamber is now taking bookings for those who wish to take part in the 2018 Regional Leaders’ Programme. More information on the programme is available at: www.limerickchamber.ie
