LIMERICK entrepreneurs should seek advice through networking or mentorship programmes as “you can’t do it alone”.

That was the message emerging from a Network Ireland Limerick event recently where fitness guru Leanne Moore and the founders of Well Nice Pops, BJ Broderick and Caitrin O’Brien were the guest speakers.

The ‘Healthy Ambition’ event heard the three Limerick businesswomen document how they were driven by their passions in life to set up their enterprises.

Personal trainer and fitness blogger, Leanne Moore opened her first business – GoGym Limerick – along with her business partners at Coonagh Cross, Limerick in August this year. Leanne described how she felt her career was a patchwork quilt until she turned 30 when she realised she could carve a career out of her desire to help people to live longer and healthier.

BJ Broderick, co-founder of Well Nice Pops, explained how work life balance and a love of vegetarian food inspired her to join friend and colleague Caitrín O’Brien to produce a range of ice pops from 100 per cent cold pressed vegetable and fruit juice.

The highs and lows of entrepreneurship were highlighted as the speakers talked about how they identified their business opportunities in the growing healthy living sector; working long hours, being absent from friends and family, financial pain and making wrong decisions.

All three speakers agreed that business owners need a really good support system and told attendees “you can’t do it alone”. They encouraged fellow entrepreneurs to turn to others for help and advice – whether through networking or mentorship programmes.

Network Ireland Limerick provides a forum where women in business, the professions and the Arts can exchange business ideas and increase their business contacts. Next month, Network Ireland (parent organisation) will launch a new mentoring programme called “Mentoring for Success” to help and support members to unlock their potential, unleash their capabilities and achieve their goals.
