Operation Transformation’s Dr Eddie to feature at Shannon Chamber Seminar

-

Dr Eddie Murphy

Business is driven by people so it essential that the environment in which they work must be conducive to maintaining happy and healthy minds and bodies.

This theme will permeate an upcoming seminar on Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace which takes place at the Oakwood Hotel in Shannon on Thursday, 21 September.

The seminar, organised by Shannon Chamber in conjunction with laya healthcare, will involve two keynote speakers of national renown outlining the benefits accruing to maintaining a healthy workforce. They will also show how a company that cares can reap dividends in terms of improved productivity and talent attraction.

Renowned for his pragmatic and affable style on the well-established TV programme, Operation Transformation, clinical psychologist, author and mental health advocate, Dr Eddie (Murphy) will talk about mental fitness and the things we need to do to keep us well. Using evidence-based tools for stress management and wellness promotion embedded in the science of positive psychology, he will focus on transforming negative emotions like stress to relaxation, anxiety to freedom and sadness to hope. He will teach attendees how to use positive psychology to support resilience building and promote wellness.

Counselling psychologist Dr Sarah O’Neil will outline how mental health is key to overall health. With mental health issues becoming increasingly prevalent both globally and in Ireland, particularly in this post-recession, highly competitive and stressful market place, she will outline what employee mental health means for employers and its effects on productivity, absenteeism, presenteeism and more.

Shannon Chamber chief executive Helen Downes is delighted to be addressing this issue in conjunction with Laya Healthcare: “Everyone is under so much pressure nowadays, trying to get a balance between work and life pressures and oftentimes finding it difficult to juggle both. The purpose of this seminar is to show employers how they can play a role in cultivating this balance and to give employees new tools to empower themselves to be healthier and more productive.”

Speaking on behalf of laya healthcare, Mary Anne Flavin, Regional Account Manager, said of their involvement in the event: “We are delighted to be working together with Shannon Chamber to help shape the future of health and wellbeing in the workplace. At laya healthcare, our vision is to empower people to look after their health and wellbeing so that they can be at their very best, always, so this event is focusing on a topic that is very close to our hearts and one we are passionate about promoting.”
