WITH this week’s launch of University Concert Hall’s juicy programme into Christmas, is news of monthly and indeed weekly events for patrons, ‘Friends of UCH’. Members fall in for special invitations, circulated deals and receptions held to fete events on campus; tickets are discounted.
First up is Friday 22’s ‘Culture Night Coffee Morning’ at 11.30am, a terrific introduction to the hall, team and other Friends. Stick around for the free Taste of Trad concert on stage at 1pm.
Coffee Morning is the only event exclusive to Friends and these following gigs are all inclusive, see www.uch.ie to book.
“Then we have something totally new, the Music Club with Liz Nolan [pictured], the RTE Lyric fm presenter whose show ‘The Full Score’ is on daily from 1pm to 4pm,” reveals Emma Foote, marketing manager with UCH. “We have had different events over last few years with lectures and playing by Stuart O’Sullivan, Mícheál O Suilleabháin, and Ellen Kent on opera. They go really well.
“The idea to Music Club is a discussion on pieces of music that are well known, over a glass of wine in the Common Room on campus near River Bistro. In this living-room atmosphere there will be a recording played, on October 10, La Traviata; October 24, Fauré’s Requiem and November 7, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.”
Emma is delighted with the return of RTE National Symphony Orchestra (“it’s a few years since we had them”). The occasion is marked by pre-concert supper at River Bistro on Thursday October 26, only €22 for Friends and €27 for others, two courses and coffee.
Finally, consider the Friends’ Festive Lunch with Vladimir Jablokov, a fond, frequent flyer to these parts as violin and performance whizz.
“This is a three course festive lunch in which Vladimir will be talking about his career today and playing for us. He’s a warm and natural performer, very popular with the team and audiences at UCH”.
